I have a 2003 1500 4x4 5.3with the nvg246 np8 transfer casei have replaced the transfer case adapter twice and it keeps breaking themall the bolts are tight to the adapter and also the transfer case mounting studsthe only thing i can think is the transfer case studs that mount to the adapter are coming loosehas anyone had this happen before i cant find any other posts like this.any input would help thanks! Kinda of sorta something like this?I bought the truck back in May with 205K km and at around 210k km the transfer case housing snapped (pic above) and dropped causing my driveshaft to snap and go flying. The cause on these cases & housings is the idler pin if im not mistaken ( little metal tab on the lower case) that rubs the case and wears a whole which turns into a crack.When replacing my t-case I also found the trans housing that the t-case housing attaches to was loose, check that to make sure they are snug. Also i had a u joint break about 1500 miles before all this and it dropped out of the truck and messed up the driveshaft so i had to get a new onei think when it dropped it may have messed up the rear half of the case where the yoke goes in because after i rebuilt the t-case the bearing where the yoke rides in the t-case keeps coming out and it also pushes the rear seal out.which could have bent the main shaft in the transfer case.if that makes any since.

My transfer case adapter just broke also on 99 gmc sierra z71 going 70 down highway and just snapped ripped a u joint out with it the skid plate below caught it.I found the adapter on ebay got it and just put the adapter on.I notice the transfer case after tranny had only one support mount right after the adapter nothing else? All of the weight of the transfer case is after the mount that is a poor. design no wonder why it broke. Went through the same problem with cracking transfer case support. The support is simply too fragile for the application. There is an earlier cast iron version available that is a direct replacement and will permanently solve this issue. Here are the pics with the part numbers.
